SEPTEMBER 2017
Dear All,

After introducing each of our consortia separately, we have decided to join forces with each other as the three EU-funded Zika consortia, with the firm belief that we are stronger and more dynamic together. In this inaugural edition of our joint ZIKAction, ZIKAlliance and ZikaPLAN newsletter we extend the reach and impact of all of our activities, inviting larger cooperation and creative combinations of expertise and knowledge.

Our joint newsletter will be issued three times a year to provide you with the latest developments in the three consortia’s activities, events, publications and cross-consortia collaboration.

We are excited to embark on this mission together, and look forward to continuing all of our cross-consortia initiatives, including the creation of a preparedness platform in Latin America and the Caribbean, collaboration on harmonized protocols for cohort studies of pregnant women, infants and children, common communication strategies and the development of data sharing tools and methodology.

We hope you enjoy this first issue, and if you want to provide any suggestions for future newsletter content, please contact your consortium’s communication officer: Francesca at
Francesca.Mazzetto@pentafoundation.org (ZIKAction), Giuseppe at Giuseppe.Paparella@ndm.ox.ac.uk (ZIKAlliance), and Koren at Koren.Wolman-Tardy@fondation-merieux.org (ZikaPLAN).

Best wishes,

Prof. Carlo Giaquinto, ZIKAction Scientific Coordinator
Prof. Xavier de Lamballerie, ZIKAlliance Scientific Coordinator
Prof. Annelies Wilder-Smith, ZikaPLAN Scientific Coordinator

Cross Consortia Collaboration
Cross-Consortia Data Sharing Session at IPK, Havana, Cuba
A cross-consortia Data Sharing session took place at the Instituto Pedro Kouri in Havana, Cuba, on 11 August 2017. As part of the collaborative effort being pursued by 3 EU-funded Zika Consortia (ZIKAction, ZIKAlliance, and ZikaPLAN) on data harmonisation and data sharing, the meeting was an important opportunity to advance the ongoing work and update participants about the work done so far.
Read more about it on the ZIKAction, ZIKAlliance, and ZikaPLAN websites.
REDe guide to Data Quality and Reciprocal Monitoring launched
The ‘REDe scheme for assuring data quality' and introduced reciprocal monitoring was launched in Cuba. It was an extremely productive session, as representatives from MERG (ZIkaPLAN), REDe and the ZIKAlliance clinical cohort studies met to focus on applying the concepts at their sites.
