BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE TEAM

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública (INSP) is a research and academic institution of Mexico’s Federal Government. Established on 26 January 1987, as a decentralized entity of the Ministry of Health, INSP resulted from the merge of the Mexican School of Public Health (est. 1922), and the research centers on infectious diseases and population health. Currently, INSP encompasses six research centers: infectious diseases, population health, health systems, nutrition and health, evaluation and surveys, and the regional center for public health research, and the information center for public health decisions. INSP offers 28 graduate degree programs (including Masters of Public Health, Masters of Health Science and doctorate degree. Since 2006 it has been accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and since 2008 by the European Network for Education on International Health (TropEd). The Research Center for Infectious Diseases (CISEI) – within INSP –  has extensive experience in vector-borne disease, and other viral, bacterial and parasitic infections. INSP has collaborative links to clinical settings through State Health Services and research institutions.

The team at the National lnstitute of Public Health (INSP), Mexico is comprised by the Principal Investigator, the lab coordinator, the project coordinator and 5 co-investigators (2 working at INSP and 3 working in the states of Mexico), each of them displaying knowledge in a range of different fields of health and infectious diseases.

Role in the Consortium

WP1:  Clinical Sciences, Epidemiology & Modelling

Task: 1.1 Pregnant women, 1.2 Cohort of children from pregnant women cohort (Developmental milestones in children born to mothers infected with ZIKV during pregnancy)

Role:

Dr. López-Gatell is the Principal Investigator of the ZikAlliance INSP team. He also is the representative of the tripartite Mexican joint-collaboration with the IMSS team, established for the CONACyT H2020 grant. He is in charge of:

  1. Leading the ZikAlliance INSP team studies on the cohort of pregnant women and children in Mexico:

-General coordination of the study

-Promoting scientific and logistical discussions among the Mexican team as a whole (IMSS and state co-investigators).

- Participating in communications with the WP1 and ZikAlliance wide-consortium

  1. Providing scientific and methodological guidance for the design, analysis and interpretation of the data from the studies on the cohort of pregnant women and children in Mexico.
  2. Promoting strategic collaboration and contact with other scientific entities and investigators involved in related research projects
  3. Analysis and interpretation of the data derived from the studies on the cohort of pregnant women and children in Mexico.
  4. Giving advice and guidance to undergraduate and graduate trainees within the research project.
